“Is vibrator group A ready ? Please tell the observer……”
“Group B vibrator is not in the right position, turn right and move 5 meters, watch the vibrator center of gravity……”
This was the voice of Djarallah Youcef, an Algerian instrument observer of Sinopec 3307, a seismic crew of Sinopec Geophysical Corporation’s Huabei Company, conducting TOUAL project in Algeria, who was sending his instructions to the field operators in the Sahara desert on the airwaves. This was also one of the most familiar voices to Sinopec 3307’s field staff. But, Djarallah Youcef was still a radioman in the radio room just one year ago.
“I was quite anxious when I just started my practices as an instrument observer, because I found myself fumbling with it at the beginning. But I had not given in and worked very hard on it by both reading and practicing. Fortunately, I always get help and tutorials from my workmates.” Djarallah Youcef said about his learning experiences. Indeed, his diligence was really much applauded by his mates.
Tang Dongyang, a Chinese instrument observer, was Djarallah Youcef’s tutor. Tang spoke highly of Djarallah Youcef’s efforts to be an instrument observer, “Before he started to have a systematic theory learning on this subject, he was sent to do practices in vibrator group, line group and survey group for a period of time. Although he got many problems in the real practices, he took great initiatives and patience in writing every problem down on his notebook and working out the solutions with me.”
Finally, his efforts paid off. Now, Djarallah Youcef has become a key player among the instrument observers. “In his vocation time, he has designed a computer program with Microsoft Office Excel, whereby any indeliberately skipped shot on the line can be quickly identified upon when it has received the observer report file.” Tang Dongyang was satisfied with Djarallah Youcef’s good work performance.
At present, Djarallah Youcef is very confident about his future. “It is a lucky and happy thing to work with Sinopec to do the geophysical exploration in my hometown. I will keep on going forward.” He said.
